Page to Stage

Tuesday 26th June 7.30pm

A platform for new and emerging writing talent in Hampshire.

Page to Stage

The Berry Theatre presents an evening of rehearsed readings of short plays and extracts of longer plays, directed by Sarah Brigham.

The aim of the evening is to get new plays up on their feet so the writers can hear their words in front of a public audience.

The actors have a limited time to work on the plays and will perform script-in-hand - a fresh and exciting experience for all.

You will see work in progress presented by a team of creative people looking to offer an example of how these plays could work on stage. This is an excellent opportunity for audience members and writers to feedback and discuss new work and work-in-progress from playwrights in Hampshire.

The five scripts chosen for Monday 30th January's Page to Stage event are all 20 minutes or less in length and are by writers from across Hampshire:

The Wilderness by Miranda Prag, a recent Masters graduate, with opening scenes  from her full length epic play, which follows a journey both in the past and present day, to and from Belarus and the UK.

Two’s Company, by Lucinda Bell is about two sisters who fall into deep conversation with serious implications, whilst at their local playgroup.  This is an opening scene for a full length play and is a work in progress.

Matt Crisp’s short play Strange to Stranger, is a lively scene at a station platform between two very different characters waiting for a train. Matt is a creative writing student at Winchester University.

There are also two plays by Writers Hub members Stewart Taylor and Jonathan Edgington.  Scenes From The Feeble Mind,  by Stewart Taylor, features humorous and controversial scenes exploring people’s perceptions about children with learning difficulties.  Lorelei,  is an intriguing monologue about a woman confronting her fears written by Jonathan Edgington.

Page To Stage is supported by our Writers Hub group.

A note about the submission of texts:
If you are interested in submitting a script, please submit new and unperformed work by email to Rob Iliffe or via post to Rob Iliffe, The Berry Theatre, Wildern Lane, Hedge End, Southampton SO30 4EJ

The deadline for submissions for our next season is Monday 16th April 2012.

Please note we currently prioritise submissions from writers living and or working in Hampshire. We select scripts based on their quality and suitability for Page To Stage rehearsed readings and aim to stage approx four plays during each evening. We accept monlogues and extracts from longer pieces and give priority to plays written for the theatre.

We reserve the right to choose plays that we feel we are able to stage within the resources of this event at The Berry Theatre - NB currently up to approximately 4 actors alongside a basic technical specification.
