Youth Theatre

“I love BYT because it’s really fun. Everyone is lovely. There isn’t any pressure and people are very understanding. You can be as creative or weird as you want. There is no limit on creativity. Everything is equal and it’s the highlight of my week.”

The Berry Youth Theatre is open to all young people in Years 4 to Year 12+, giving each the opportunity to take part in safe, empowering and challenging theatre regardless of background or ability.

Weekly workshops take place at the theatre with professional directors and theatre practitioners. We place a great emphasis on the importance of the ensemble and aim to develop a diverse range of drama skills whilst encouraging self-expression, teamwork and confidence.

All members of our Youth Theatre are given performance opportunities throughout the year. As well as our spring production we like to end each term with a sharing of devised work and members will be first to know of other opportunities that arise at The Berry Theatre and our sister venue The Point, in Eastleigh.

When you join our Youth Theatre your involvement goes far beyond the weekly workshop sessions as we invest in all areas of your arts participation.

You will:

  • Receive regular emails about upcoming show offers at The Point and The Berry Theatre and the chance to join your friends on trips to see shows.
  • The opportunity to complete a bronze or silver Arts Award
  • Support, mentoring and career advice as well as consideration for work experience placements at the theatre.

Enjoyment is central to all we do at The Berry Youth Theatre. Here's what our members and parents have to say:

“It allows me to be me. Starting a new school is scary and BYT is kind of a break from the stress.”
- Youth Theatre Member

“Although it can be challenging at times, the effort that we put in is always worth it. We also have a huge amount of fun, laughing together and making tons of memories."
- Youth Theatre Member

“The BYT has been a blessing to my daughter who suffered with low self-esteem and lack of confidence. After joining the BYT her confidence has increased so much - which has shown at school too. We can’t thank you enough.”

“I love that BYT challenges my children to work collaboratively but independently!”
