Continued recovery support for flagship Eastleigh Borough cultural venues

The Berry Theatre and its sister venue The Point have been allocated £96,000 from the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund.

This financial support marks the third round of awards from the Fund.

It is a significant cash injection by the Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) and is another vital investment in the future of both theatres, which are owned and operated by Eastleigh Borough Council.

The Point and The Berry Theatre have been safely and socially reopening to their audiences by scheduling a programme of varied events for their audiences and local communities, operating at 80% capacity and accommodating social distancing where applicable.

The funding will support this programming in addition to staffing, overheads, and the venues’ commitment to be inclusive and sustainable.

Councillor Tonia Craig, Eastleigh Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Social Policy, said: “It is great news that the talented team running our theatres have managed to secure this additional funding. It has been an important lifeline during successive lockdowns and has allowed the team to develop the excellent programmes that are currently in place this Winter and for Spring 2022.”

Creative Director of The Point Charlotte Hall said: “We are incredibly grateful for this latest injection of funding and for the continued support of the DCMS. Our commitment to providing fantastic creative experiences for our communities has not waned and this crucial funding helps us to deliver on this during continued times of challenge.

“This funding, alongside the continued support of Eastleigh Borough Council and the Arts Council, helps us to ensure our community can continue to enjoy creative experiences over the coming weeks and months and long into the future.”
